Distanced is an exploratory work that examines the materiality of metal within the context of wall-bound sculpture. Utilizing conventional metalworking techniques such as cutting and arc welding, the piece presents a composition of abstract geometric forms rendered in brass and copper, shaped through both deliberate craftsmanship and the incidental effects of oxyacetylene processing. The application of common household chemicals to induce patination across the different metals further expands the visual and material language of the work. Through this process, the piece engages with ideas of surface transformation, temporality, and the aesthetic potential of corrosion. By foregrounding the tension between control and unpredictability, Distanced reflects on spatial and emotional separation, positioning material behavior as a metaphor for distance in its various manifestations.
