Mother and Child (Insurgent)
Materials: Brass and copper
Dimensions: 14 in x 6 in x 12 in

Mother and Child (Insurgent) draws inspiration from the concept articulated by the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, who described insurgent communities as entities that "are born from a wound in the body of a particular state who tear themselves apart from the mother state by force and then claim certain sovereign rights. If victorious they turn into state: if not they disappear." This piece delves into themes of rebellion, sovereignty, and the complex dynamics between a state and its insurgent factions. Through the interplay of materials and form, the sculpture invites viewers to contemplate the tensions inherent in the struggle for autonomy and the redefinition of identity within political structures.
