Drawing from years of metalwork practice and theoretical reflection, Pananatili’t Paglisan explores the semiotic weight of metal as both medium and message. Inspired by urban skylines and industrial materials, the sculpture echoes the verticality of city structures while subtly challenging their permanence.
A continuation of Alex’s earlier collaborative Flight of Ideas series, this work investigates the fusion of dissimilar metals—brass and iron alloy—not only for their contrasting physical properties but also for their metaphorical tensions. At its core lies a hidden word, “home,” which will reveal itself over time through oxidation, transforming the piece as nature reclaims the industrial.
The work engages with post-structuralist thought, particularly Roland Barthes’ concept of the "Death of the Author," suggesting that meaning is constantly renegotiated between viewer and object. Pananatili’t Paglisan invites an active reading of form and material, prompting reflections on place, identity, labor, and the evolving narratives we attach to the spaces we inhabit.
