“Tao po” is a maquette for a proposed large-scale public sculpture, conceptualized to explore the tension between refuge and urban abstraction. A semi-abstract figure formed from welded iron bars crouches within a pedestal, designed to be gradually enveloped by a living English ivy. Originally intended to host a Bougainvillea—a symbol of home and hospitality—the shift to ivy reflects the artist’s adaptive response to environmental constraints. The work merges industrial and organic elements to suggest how natural life persists, reshapes, or resists urban frameworks. Simultaneously a finished artwork and a working proposal, Tao po becomes a meditation on transformation, rootedness, and the imagined potential of public space.
